Annual Maximum Precipitation in Indonesia and Its Association to Climate Teleconnection Patterns: An Extreme Value Analysis

نویسندگان

چکیده

Extreme rainfall (ER) in Indonesia frequently leads to floods and landslides, disrupting economic activity impacting human lives. Here, we investigate ER variability association with climate teleconnection patterns (CTP) including the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), Madden-Julian (MJO), using extreme value analysis based on daily data from 32 stations for 30 years (1985-2014). By fitting a generalized distribution, significant between annual maximum (AMR) CTP was found 12 of stations. The sensitivity test location parameter showed that AMR-CTP interconnection spatially inhomogeneous. positive (negative) ENSO IOD AMR noticeable south-western (eastern) Indonesia. Additionally, MJO detected at 4 (3) mostly located Sumatra (Java) Island. Furthermore, return level shows 20-year intensity waiting time will be shorter longer when indexes strengthen weaken, suggesting potential increase decrease likelihood future occurrences, respectively. These results are relevant understanding relationship should considered adaptation mitigation plans minimize impacts.

Extreme value theory for precipitation: sensitivity analysis for climate change

Extreme value theory for the maximum of a time series of daily precipitation amount is described. A chain-dependent process is assumed as a stochastic model for daily precipitation, with the intensity distribution being the gamma. To examine how the e€ective return period for extreme high precipitation amounts would change as the parameters of the chain-dependent process change (i.e., probabili...

Modeling Annual Extreme Precipitation in China Using the Generalized Extreme Value Distribution

Extreme precipitation events are the major causes of severe floods in China. In this study, four time series of daily, 2-day, 5-day, and 10-day annual maximum precipitation from 1951 to 2000 at 651 weather stations in China were analyzed. The generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution was used, to model the annual extreme precipitation events at each station. The GEV distribution was also mod...

Extreme value analysis of annual maximum water levels in the Pearl River Delta, China

We analyzed the statistical properties of water level extremes in the Pearl River Delta using five probability distribution functions. Estimation of parameters was performed using the L-moment technique. Goodness-of-fit was done based on KolmogorovSmirnov’s statistic D (K-S D). The research results indicate that Wakeby distribution is the best statistical model for description of statistical be...

Analysis of inter-decade changes in trends and spatial patterns of annual and seasonal precipitation, case study: West of Iran

The present research about the spatial changes of precipitation is mainly focused on western areas of Iran. Precipitation data for three seasons of fall, winter, and spring have been obtained from Esafzari Database, with 15*15 km spatial resolution in the form of a Lambert Cone Image System for the period from 1986 to 2015. To examine the prevailing pattern of precipitation in west of Iran, we ...
